Marriage Preparation RequirementsYou must be registered at St. Martha Catholic Church. If you are a registered member of another Catholic Church, then you must ask for a letter of permission from the pastor of the Bride's, or of the Catholic spouse's parish. You must fill out a Preliminary Wedding Information Sheet and mail or fax it to the Parish Secretary. Our Wedding Regulations and Check Off List may be printed out to help with the marriage preparation process. Process must begin six months prior to the wedding date. First check with the parish secretary to see if the date and time you want is available. Secretary will begin the process before you meet with a Deacon or Priest. If either person has been married before, you will need to speak with a priest or deacon before choosing a wedding date. The priest or deacon will determine what process needs to be followed (annulment, lack of form or a dispensation) before marriage preparation can begin. An updated/current (within the last six months) Baptismal certificate needs to be acquired. A copy of your Confirmation certificate needs to be placed in your marriage preparation folder as well. Please have certificates sent to the Parish Secretary. Click here to print out a Baptism Certificate Request Form. An appointment to take the Pre-Marital Inventory Survey will be scheduled after your first appointment. Couples must attend a Marriage Preparation Program (One-Day Marriage Program, Engaged Encounter Weekend, or Pre-Cana Conference). Prices for Marriage Preparation programs vary. For more information go to the Diocese of Venice web site (under Pastoral Ministries Department you will find Family Life Office, click on marriage preparation for schedules and information). You will be given a certificate after you have completed the program. Our Music Director, will contact the couple about a month or so before the wedding. Any questions concerning a soloist, vocalist, etc. needs to be discussed with her. Wedding fee is $400. for registered parishioners; $500. for non-members. Fee includes Church, Bride's Room, Celebrant, our Music Director, Altar Servers & Sacristan. Obtaining a Marriage license can be found at the Sarasota County Government web site under Clerk of the Circuit Court.
Special Notes The wedding rehearsal is always the Friday evening before the wedding at 6:30 p.m., unless otherwise stipulated. No wedding coordinator is allowed to give direction in the Church. Liturgy (from the procession to the recession) is directed by the celebrant NOT the coordinator. |
