Altar Server

The role of Altar Server in Catholic Church history is referenced dating back to the third century A.D. and even has a patron saint, St. Tarcisius. Traditionally an honor and privilege granted exclusively to school-aged boys, Altar Service was long considered a first step to the Priesthood. In 1983 Pope John Paul decreed that the honor of serving Mass should be extended to include girls and young women. While the Vatican left adherence to this rule optional, Saint Martha’s is blessed to have a fine 20160605_113851team of Altar Servers, boys and girls alike.

Saint Martha welcomes children and young adults, 4th grade and up, to become Altar Servers for our weekly Masses. If interested, please email our Volunteer Coordinator.
